About Walnut Grove Counselling

Our Philosophy

At Walnut Grove Counselling, we firmly believe in the potential for change and growth within every individual. Our therapeutic approach is deeply rooted in empathy, compassion, and utmost respect for the individual journey of each individual.

The name Walnut Grove was deliberately chosen to symbolize the rich history and enduring traditions found within families spanning generations, much like the walnut tree. Just as this tree requires regular pruning and maintenance to thrive, therapy similarly involves a process of shaping, shedding the old, and nurturing the essential aspects for future strength and resilience.

Walnut trees are renowned for their resilience, enduring challenging conditions for over 150 years while still yielding beautiful wood. The choice of “Grove” in our name reflects the idea of community and the coming together of individuals to support a familial environment.

In alignment with the principles of truth, respect, and reconciliation, we acknowledge that our practice operates on the traditional Treaty 7 territory, which is comprised of the Blackfoot Confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. We recognize that this territory is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. We extend our acknowledgment to all Nations–Indigenous and non-Indigenous–who reside, work, and thrive on

this land.
